Frequently Asked Questions
I am really nervous, as my dog has never boarded before.
As a result of the special hands-on care, comfortable accommodations, competent & well trained staff, the quality of the facility, and the amount of personalized activities we offer, our guests adapt very well and enjoy the wonderful experience of being part of our family. If you have any concerns, we can certainly recommend a complimentary single daytime visit on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, based on availability, to help you dog adjust.
Do I need to bring food for my dog?
All of our canine guests are fed premium Bil-Jac dog food during their stay. The specific blend of Bil-Jac has been chosen for its high palatability, digestibility, smell and texture making it the perfect match for dogs in a boarding situation. This is a fresh moist dog food to help encourage your pet to eat. We are happy to offer a complimentary bag of food to help in the process.
You are welcome to provide your pet's regular food if you choose, please pack each meal in a separate bag or container. A small handling fee will be added for this option if the food is not individually separated. Feeding time is early-morning and mid afternoon. Pets can be feed once or twice a day. For those pets that are grazers we can leave the food down for them. Arrangements can be made if your pet is on a specific feeding schedule or has special requirements. A small service charge may apply.
It is recommended you limit the amount of food you provide your pet on the day of admission due to the natural excitement your pet may experience upon arrival at the Lodge. Likewise, food and water should be limited for the first hour or two after you pet arrives home. This will allow your pet ample time to settle down before feeding.
What should I have prepared for my pet's arrival?
Activity and bathing requests should be made at the time the reservation is made. Vaccination records for Bordetella, Distemper, and Rabies should be faxed over before arrival. Adequate telephone numbers should be provided in case we need to contact you. Any special diets or medications should be clearly communicated to our receptionists upon check-in. A scheduled pick up time should also be discussed upon drop off.
What is your cancellation policy for reservations?
If you need to change or cancel a reservation during a holiday period, please notify us at least 7 days in advance to avoid a forfeiture of your deposit. Changes or cancellations to a non-holiday period reservation we ask to be made three days in advance.
What happens when a pet in our care needs veterinary care?
If your pet should require medical attention while in our care, we make every attempt to contact you or your emergency contact to get your instructions. If we are unable to reach you, our customary procedure is to contact your veterinarian. All charges incurred will be your responsibility. If it is an emergency, we will take your pet to the closest veterinarian.
How do I make reservations?
For reservations at any of the Karnik Pet Lodges there are several reservation options. You can call us, stop in or place a reservation on line. If a reservation is made on line, a confirmation by email or by phone is necessary. Our pet care consultants will be happy to discuss all of the boarding, grooming, and daycare options that Karnik Pet Lodges have to offer! Holiday and peak reservations should be made well in advance and require a $50 deposit.
Can I come in for a tour?
Absolutely! Our welcoming staff will be available to give you a personal tour of our facility during any of our open hours. Please understand that weekends are our busiest time. You may have a few minute wait if you come in then.
Is my pet confined to just its suite?
This is an individual preference for our clients. While some, for various reasons, wish for their pet to stay in its suite, other clients ask for their pet to participate in our playtime program, have potty walks, or be included in our doggie daycare program during their stay. These are additional cost activities and we can accommodate these requests daily, twice a day, every other day, or however you would like. Our feline friends can have playtimes, too!
Can my dog have doggie daycare with other dogs similar to him?
Our doggie daycare was created to allow dogs of similar temperament and activity level to be able to play with similar dogs. We have multiple areas available, so your dog can enjoy the play group that best suits him. We have large indoor and outdoor play areas at our facilities, so your dog enjoys plenty of space and fresh air!
Can I bring in my pet’s toys and bedding?
There are many distractions for your pet while boarding. Our experience has been that the pets do not play as much with their own toys. You are more than welcome to bring in a toy or two for your pet. With the ability of the pets to knock the toys out of their suite, we do ask that you do not bring in any toys that could not be lost.
As far as bedding, we provide rugs and mats for your pet to lay on. These are easily washable by us, so we ask that you not bring in any bedding from home.
My pet is on medication. Can this be given to him while boarding?
We have experience giving just about any medication that is normally given to pets while at home. We can even give insulin injections. For those on special medications that require handling of the pet, we may ask that you bring your pet in for a trial stay to assure that we are able to handle you pet and properly administer the medication. We do charge for the administration of medications to your pet as we take extra precautions to assure they are properly given.
